¡La Esquina de la Gramática! Rule 5

Question marks and exclamation points…all double, no excuses.

In Spanish, you have to use double question marks and exclamation points, and the same applies to brackets and square brackets. Here are some examples:

¿Quién le ha llamado?

¡Qué prisa tienes!

After the closing question mark or exclamation point, a punctuation mark can be used, with the exception of a period.

For example:

¡Ah!, olvidaba darte esto.

¿Han terminado ya de preparar la mesa?

—¿Qué vamos a comer? —preguntó.

When the closing question marks or exclamation points are the ending of a sentence, the following word should start with a capital letter.

¿Dónde está el restaurante? Olvidé mirarlo en la guía.

¡Qué frío! Coge el abrigo y la bufanda.
